AAUW’s ‘Grants for Gals’ scholarship program accepting applications

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) Fort Atkinson Branch has announced that it is accepting applications for the organization’s “Grants for Gals” scholarship program through Sept. 15.

According to information released by the group, the non-traditional scholarship is offered to provide a one-time grant to local girls and women to help meet an educational, leadership or professional advancement need. It is not available for college credit or to supplement living expenses.

The grant is offered to girls and women who are at least 10 years old and live, work or attend school in the Fort Atkinson community. Grants will be awarded based on the applicant’s essay, letter(s) of recommendation,  project or goal quality, and financial need. Grants will be awarded in amounts between $100 and $700, the release stated.

Grants are dispersed twice a year, with applications due on Sept. 15 and April 15 each year.

Grants can provide opportunities for girls to attend programming, like camps, that their parents might not otherwise be able to afford, or women to achieve specialized accreditation to advance a career. Grants fill a niche not offered by traditional scholarships, the release noted.

To apply for a grant, visit https://grantsforgals.org and complete the online application. Applicants may also print the application and mail it to Grants For Gals, P.O. Box 624, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538.
