Whitewater: Road construction work on Janesville, Newcomb, Bishop to begin Tuesday

The City of Whitewater Department of Public Works has announced that milling and pavement work will take place next week on portions of Janesville, Newcomb and Bishop streets.

According to a news release, work on Janesville Street will affect a portion of roadway between Walworth Avenue and the railroad tracks. 

Work is slated to begin Tuesday, Sept. 6. 

“The contractor will mill off up to 2 inches of concrete pavement on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and return on Thursday, Sept. 8, to place asphalt,” the release stated.  

Traffic markings will be painted on roadway within the project area on Friday, Sept. 9, the release noted. 

One traffic lane in each direction is anticipated to remain open during the project. 

“Motorists can still expect some minor delays due to construction vehicles entering and exiting the work area. Motorists are urged to use caution in the tight construction zone,” the release continued.  

Additionally, according to the release, Work also will take place on Newcomb Street between East Milwaukee and Clay streets, and on Bishop Street between Newcomb and Clay streets. 

The contractor will be removing asphalt on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and placing asphalt pavement on Thursday Sept. 8. 

During the project, the impacted areas on Newcomb and Bishop streets will be closed. Access will remain available to residents living within the project area.
