Correction: information submitted by press release incorrectly identified the name of a presenter. The Rock River Regenerative Graziers will be presenting. The story has been changed. The Heart of the City regrets the error.
Update: Heart of the City has announced that Kristin Halverson, a National Geographic educator who was slated to speak at the summit at noon, will not be making her presentation due to an illness in her family.
Heart of the City, a nonprofit, Fort Atkinson-based, community service group, has announced that it will be hosting its first Fort Ecology Summit.
According to a recent news release, the summit is designed to bring public awareness to local efforts to preserve and protect, as defined in the release, “this fragile earth ecosystem,” upon which all living things depend.
A theme of the summit is “Plants, Pollinators and People: Inspiration and Action for a Better Community.”
During the summit, several area organizations will participate through presentations and educational offerings. Groups anticipated to participate include Rock River Regenerative Graziers, Focus on Energy, Wild Ones Organization, the Homeless Coalition of Fort Atkinson, Rock River Coalition, Friends of Rose Lake, and Bird City among others, the release noted.
A goal is to promote cooperation between the groups and create enthusiasm that will lead to activism through volunteers, the release stated.
Additionally, a presentation will be given by National Geographic educator Kristin Halverson at noon, followed by an electric lawnmower demonstration, given by Mark Furst with Focus on Energy, at 12:30 p.m. The demonstration will be held on the museum grounds. Amy Yocum, a member of the Madison Chapter of Wild Ones will give a presentation at 1 p.m.
The summit will be held at the Hoard Historical Museum, 401 Whitewater Ave., Fort Atkinson, Saturday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The summit is free and open to all members of the Jefferson County community.
