The Fort Atkinson branch of the American Association of University Woman (AAUW) has announced that Kim Simes, chief of staff, people and culture with the Family Equality Council, will be the keynote speaker at the group’s next meeting, scheduled for Nov. 7.
The Family Equality Council, according to its website, is a New York-based, nonprofit organization founded in 1979. Its mission is to ensure that everyone has the freedom to find, form and sustain their families by advancing equality for the LGBTQ+ community.
In her role as chief of staff, people and culture, Simes is charged with coordinating The Family Equality Council’s strategic alignment of diverse internal and external activities. Prior to serving in that role, Simes served as the director of special events with the organization’s development team and as director of regional programming, focusing on coordinating community events in the Midwest and on the West Coast, according to the website.
While in Fort Atkinson, Simes will offer a presentation titled: “Family Equality – It’s going to take all of us.” The presentation will provide an overview of LGBTQ+ families and the current environment in which they live. The presentation is open to the public and a respectful and positive environment will be maintained, according to information released by AAUW.
The meeting and presentation will be held at the Fort Atkinson Club Community Center, 211 S. Water St., E., Fort Atkinson. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the presentation, beginning at 7 p.m.
