Large margin returns Fitzgerald to U.S. House

U.S. Rep. Scott Fitzgerald will be returning for another term representing U.S. Congressional District 5. 

According to information made available after Tuesday’s election by ballotpedia.org, the Republican incumbent earned 64.6% of the districtwide vote while his opponent, Democratic challenger Mike Van Someren, earned 35.4%. The ballotpedia.org page is here: https://ballotpedia.org/Scott_Fitzgerald. 

Fitzgerald also was favored by Jefferson County voters. According to the county’s election site, Fitzgerald earned 22,640 or 58.22% of the vote while his opponent, Democratic challenger Mike Van Someren earned 15,553 or 40% of the vote. Tallies from the county were complete, with 33 precincts reporting. 

In Walworth County, with all of the race’s three precincts counted, 3,181 votes were cast in Fitzgerald’s favor. His challenger earned 1,428 votes.
