The Dwight Foster Public Library has announced that it was recently the recipient of a book donation made by the Paul Frank Florine Unit 166 American Legion Auxiliary.
The group donated five children’s books. Among them are: “The Civil War,” “Tuesday Tucks Me In,” “Sergeant Reckless,” and “Rolling Thunder.”
The Civil War is a visual encyclopedia presenting stories of the people, battles and politics of the American Civil War.
According to a book description provided by “Christianbook,” the encyclopedia offers a topic on each page and tells the story of the war using “simple explanations” and photographs. The book is a product provided by DK Children. The company, according to its website, provides “award-winning and best-selling children’s books to appeal to kids of all ages.”
Tuesday Tucks Me In, according to a book description on Amazon, is the story about the bond between a soldier and his service dog.
The book, written by Bret Witter and Luis Carlos Montalvan, explores a day in the life of a service dog named “Tuesday.”
Sergeant Reckless tells the story of a “little horse who became a hero,” according to a book description on the website, Thriftbooks.
“The inspiring true story of “Reckless,” a brave little horse who became a Marine,” is the first picture book by award-winning novelist Patricia McCormick, and features illustrations by acclaimed artist Iacopo Bruno, the description states. The book is meant to appeal to readers ages 6-10.
Rolling Thunder, according to a book description found on Amazon, shares information about an annual Memorial Day event in Washington DC called Rolling Thunder Ride for Freedom.
Each year, more than a million veterans and their supporters gather for the event in a demonstration that pays tribute to the men and women of the U.S. armed forces, the description noted.
The story honors the bravery and sacrifice of those Americans, the description continued.
The book is written by Kate Messner and illustrated by Greg Ruth. It is recommended for readers ages 4-8.
Information about a fifth book was not provided to Fort Atkinson Online.
