Several events will take place this month at the Dwight Foster Public Library, according to a recent press release. They include a monthly book sale, an opportunity to pick up milkweed seeds for planting, and a pumpkin carving contest for kids, teens and adults.
The Friends of the Library will be hosting a book sale at the library on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to noon. The first hour is reserved for shopping by the membership of the Friends of the Library. Those interested in joining the group can learn more by attending the sale. The sale is open to the public after 10 a.m. The next sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 9.
Visitors to the library can pick up milkweed seeds for planting. Seeds are available while supplies last.
According to the release: “Fall is a great time to plant milkweed because the seeds like to lay in the soil over winter. Milkweed is the primary food source for Monarch butterflies and a host of other insects.”
Seed distribution is limited to one package per family or individual. Packages can be picked up at the library’s Second Floor Service Desk.
A Jack-O-Lantern contest for kids will take place at the library on Monday, Oct. 25 and Tuesday, Oct. 26. Those interested in participating are invited to bring their designs to the library on Monday. Judging will take place on Tuesday, the release stated. Winners in each division, kids, teens and adults, will be notified on Wednesday, Oct. 27. Pumpkins must be picked up by participants no later than Thursday at 8 p.m.
“We are scaring up some fun prizes so don’t miss out,” the release noted.
