The School District of Fort Atkinson has announced that Leah Schroeder has been named October “Rotary Educator of the Month.”
According to information released by the district last Monday, Schroeder is a teacher at Barrie Elementary School.
She was presented with the honor last Monday.
Barrie Elementary School Principal Justin Stewart, addressing members of the Rotary Club of Fort Atkinson during their monthly meeting, said Schroeder “embodies dedication, leadership, and making learning fun as she maximizes every opportunity to shape the minds and hearts of her students on a daily basis.”
He further described the teacher as a “consummate professional,” adding that: “dedication” was at the core of why she was chosen as a Rotary Educator of the Month.
To achieve her teaching goals, the principal said, the teacher performs “countless hours of preparation,” and engages in “late nights spent grading assignments and planning lessons,” and “participation in district and building-level committees.”
Schroeder exhibits a “genuine desire to see each student succeed,” Stewart said.
Along with serving her students, the principal continued, Schroeder is a leader among her peers.
Said Stewart: “As a great teacher and leader, Leah leads by example, fostering a culture of respect and curiosity in her classroom — and within the building. Leah inspires her students to think critically, respectfully challenge one another, and to pursue becoming the best versions of themselves. Leah accomplishes this by creating a safe space where every voice is heard and where students feel empowered to take risks.”
He described Schroeder’s classroom as a place where a community is formed, and where “all students work together towards common goals.”
Of Schroeder’s teaching style, he said, she brings “creativity, joy and fun.”
He added: “Because Leah’s students are engaged and having fun, they laugh and smile, all while absorbing and retaining information to learn at the highest level.”
