Bethel House, Whitewater, has announced that Sydney Johnson has been installed as the institution’s director of case management services.
She has been operating in that role since June.
Johnson holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from Marian University and is working towards her master’s degree at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Before joining Bethel House, she served in a grant-writing capacity with We EmpowHer and as a case manager with the Salvation Army of Fond du Lac, according to information released by Bethel House.
According to its website, We EmpowHer is an organization formed to provide women and children with safe, supportive communities through year-round programing that makes use of community resources to “embrace the best versions of themselves as valued community members.”
In her role as case manager, Johnson will be responsible for overseeing Bethel House’s emergency assistance and the transitional housing programs, including all case management services provided to the housed families.
She will work closely with the organization’s executive director Megan Hartwick, the release noted.
“We’ve experienced a lot of staff transition over the past six months, and we’re eager to grow our services now that we are back up to full staffing capacity. Sydney is already proving to be a tremendous asset to our organization and all those families who contact us looking for support,” Hartwick was quoted as saying in the release.
Bethel House Board of Directors President Jessie Dugan noted within the release that the organization’s hiring board saw in Johnson “a good fit” due to her “authentic passion for serving and supporting others.”
Johnson, within the release, noted that she was looking forward to becoming a “go-to” person for area families as they search for resources and support while they work to “get back on their feet.”
“After speaking with some community partners, it became apparent that there (is) a large number of homeless and low-income families in the Whitewater community, and I am eager to help bring educational resources and support to those who can benefit from it,” she said.
Bethel House is open Mondays through Thursdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., through August, with additional opportunities to speak with staff by appointment.
