Black Hawk Artists show to run through Nov. 21

The Black Hawk Artists’ 51st Annual Show and Sale kicked off earlier this month at the Hoard Historical Museum in Fort Atkinson.

It will continue through Nov. 21 during regular museum hours, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

Each year, members create a special piece to be exhibited on their theme wall. This year’s theme is “Rejuvenation.”

Admission is free of charge. Most pieces at the show are available for sale, with payment by cash or check only.

In addition to two-dimensional wall art, there is a large

assortment of other handcrafted art pieces, including handmade cards.

The Black Hawk Artists is a group of women who meet monthly to support each other’s work and to plan their annual show at the museum. Members work in a variety of media, including oils, pastels, watercolor, acrylics, colored pencil, ceramics, hand-marbled silk, jewelry, sculpture, collage and more.

They include Jan Gilkey, Priscilla Heussner, Judith Henning, Jan Holewinski, Julia Ince, Sally Koehler, Mary Pratt and Angela Hamele Szabo, all of Fort Atkinson; Janet Nelson and Mary Wallace, both of Cambridge; Karen Gomez, Jefferson; Karen Crosby, Lake Mills, and Linda Tump, Whitewater.

Henning is the sole charter member in the group, although she did take some time off to raise her family. Heussner is the longest-serving participant, at 46 years.
