Boy Scouts of America Scouting for Food Movement 2021 to begin in March

The Boy Scouts of American (BSA) Scouting for Food Movement 2021 will kick off Saturday, March 6.

Five area BSA units will be moving through Fort Atkinson neighborhoods distributing door hangers into which residents can place food donations, Assistant Scout Master of BSA Troop 134 Dan Burhans said.

Food donations collected through the program will benefit the Fort Atkinson Food Pantry, he noted.

The food drive has been a BSA-sponsored nationwide event for several years, Burhans said.

The five units, including BSA Troop 134, BSA Troop 131, Cub Scout Pack 137, Cub Scout Pack 184, and Venturing Crew 2166, plan to cover the entire city, he added.

BSA units will return to collect food donations from community members’ doors and porches on Saturday, March 13.

A BSA trailer also will be in place in the parking lot of Festival Foods on March 13 where community members are invited to drop off donations, Burhans said.

The Food Pantry has some needs at this time, Burhans noted, including canned carrots, canned peas, canned hash, baked beans, pork and beans, any creamed soups, mandarin oranges, and canned pineapple, but, he continued, “any donation is appreciated at this time.”

Scouts participating in the food drive will wear masks and practice social distancing while out in the community, Burhans said.

Community members with questions are invited to contact Burhans by phone: 608-445-8620.
