Carnival ride

The Fourth of July celebration in Whitewater kicked off Friday.

Carnival rides were whirling and twirling, accompanied by the sounds of patrons enjoying the activity late Friday afternoon, when a train whistle could be heard faintly, at first, but then the sound grew louder.

The tracks bisect the city’s Cravath Lakefront Park, where the Fourth of July festival is held, with amusements on one side of the tracks and food venders and entertainment on the other.

As the train moved through, the conductor waved at event-goers and many stopped to take photos. Others waited for an opportunity to move across the tracks to enjoy the day’s festivities.

Fort Atkinson Online freelance videographer Ashley McDarison was on-hand and captured the video footage below.
