Dr. Amanda Cheek is the new owner of Rock River Optical, according to a recent news release.
Cheek follows longtime owner Dr. Linda Foley who has retired, the release stated.
Cheek purchased the business this month and is open for business and accepting new patients, the release confirmed.
Rock River Optical is located at 232 S. Main St., Fort Atkinson.
According to the release, Cheek is a native of Fort Atkinson, graduating from Fort Atkinson High School in 2004.
She obtained her bachelor’s of optometry degree from Indiana University School of Optometry in 2007 and her doctorate in optometry in 2011.
Prior to that, she attended Marian University in Fond du Lac, where she studied biology.
Upon completion of her studies, Cheek worked at Shopko Eyecare in LaCrosse. She next returned “home,” in 2012, where she practiced at LensCrafters in Janesville until 2015. Cheek also practiced at Shopko Optical in Fort Atkinson from 2015 to 2021, and practiced optometry at Walmart in Jefferson and Whitewater from 2021 to 2022, according to the release.
“Being my hometown, it was always an exciting idea to own my own practice in Fort Atkinson. Dr. Foley reached out to me and was looking to sell her business and retire. She sure had built a fantastic practice right here in Fort for me to easily take over. I really enjoy seeing familiar faces from my kids’ schools, church, from my school days, neighbors, relatives, and friends,” Cheek recently told Fort Atkinson Online by email.
Looking ahead, Cheek wrote, “At Rock River Optical, patients can expect familiar friendly faces when you walk in the door. My opticians, Kirsten and Taylor, will continue with the clinic and really do a wonderful job with patient care and knowledge in eye care and insurances.
“I will be offering eye examinations with retinal photography and optical coherence tomography screenings to confirm healthy eyes. I also offer contact lens fittings and examinations. I really enjoy the first time a kid puts on a pair of glasses and sees all the leaves on the trees, or helping someone fit into a contact that gives them freedom from glasses, and of course chatting and examining older individuals in the community.”
Rock River Optical carries eyeglasses and contact lenses. Some brands include: Maui Jim, Ray Ban, Kate Spade, Penguin, Ducks Unlimited, and Betsy Johnson.
Those interested in making an appointment or visiting the store may do so Mondays, Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Fridays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Customers are asked to schedule an appointment by calling: 920-542-1501.
Cheek is married to her husband, Matthew, who is a teacher in the Johnson Creek School District. The couple has four daughters. Together, the family enjoys going to movies, especially the outdoor theater, and visiting the Fort Atkinson community pool.
