Fort Atkinson City Manager Rebecca Houseman on Monday released a statement thanking the community’s businesses for “not selling tobacco to those under 21.”
In her statement, Houseman wrote: “Fort Atkinson retailers proved they do the right thing by not selling tobacco products to individuals under the age of 21.
“The following retailers in the city of Fort Atkinson proved they check ID’s when selling tobacco products after a Wisconsin WINS compliance check: X Treme Smoke, Kwik Trip, Pick N Save, Stop N’ Go, KP Mart, Tobacco Land, Loeder BP, Walgreen’s, Fat Boyz, Family Dollar #26250, Citgo Handy Pantry, Sunny’s Quick Mart, Citgo on the Point, Shell Handy Pantry and Festival Foods.”
The city manager concluded: “Thank you to all the retailers who are keeping tobacco products out the hands of the city’s youth.”
According to the statement, the American Lung Association and the Wisconsin WINS Recognition and Reminder strategy is a science-based approach that reduces youth access to tobacco products. For more information about Wisconsin WINS, visit its website: www.wiwins.org.
