Community band brings music to Barrie

The Fort Atkinson Community Band kicked off its 64th season Monday with the first of five summer concerts at Barrie Park.

First Congregational United Church of Christ hosted an ice cream social in conjunction with the event. Proceeds are being donated to the Homeless Coalition of Fort Atkinson.

Among the band’s repertoire was “Trumpets Olé” featuring Adrian Pierce, Jim Jackson, Nancy Boyer, Judy White, Lou Larsen, David Hayes and Rusty Fogel on trumpets.

Percussionist Bill Wilson added fun to the Latin tune ‘Oye Como Va.’”

The summer concerts are free and open to the public.

Chairs are set up during the performances by the Fort Atkinson Parks and Recreation Department, and event-goers are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to provide additional seating.

Upcoming concert dates include: July 1, July 15, July 29, and Aug. 12.

Ice cream socials and concerts will move across the street to Trinity Lutheran Church in cases of inclement weather.
