The Fort Atkinson City Council approved Tuesday an event planned by the Dwight Foster Public Library to be hosted in September of 2022.
The event, called “Block Party Extravaganza,” is being planned for Sept. 18, in the 200 block of Merchants Avenue, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to information supplied by organizers.
The event is expected to attract over 100 attendees.
Information supplied by the library, titled: “Proposal for Library Block Party Event,” noted that the goal is to provide a venue to encourage community engagement and partnerships, as well as introduce library programming and building amenities to families living outside of Fort Atkinson. The event will include space for area food truck vendors and Fort Atkinson restaurants to serve food to event-goers.
The event will also include fun and family-friendly activities and the library’s community room will be available to provide seating for dining and children’s programing.
During the event, the city’s public works department will be placing barricades and barrels at each end of Merchants Avenue, according to a memo to council from City Clerk Michelle Ebbert.
The Fort Atkinson Post Office management has confirmed that it does not find a conflict with the library’s plans and offered access to its parking lot from Third Street to be used as additional parking during the event. Parking will also be available in the municipal lot on Milwaukee Avenue, the memo continued.
According to the special events application submitted by event organizers, the block party will feature music, with a temporary tent or canopy erected as part of the festivities.
A map supplied by the Dwight Foster Public Library shows the locations of various activities planned for September.
