Daughters of the American Revolution name Lake Mills, Whitewater ‘Good Citizen’ honorees 

The Fort Atkinson-Eli Pierce Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has announced that Whitewater High School student Ghati Binagi and Lake Mills High School student Cooper Murphy are among this year’s recipients of the “Good Citizen of the Year” award.

The organization names several students from area high schools annually.

Binagi and Murphy, along with other recipients whom the organization continues to announce, will be honored during a luncheon which the organization will hold in March, chapter spokesperson Chris Spangler recently noted.

About Binagi

According to the release, Ghati Binagi was chosen as a recipient of the award, in part, due to her academic achievements, which include maintaining an “A” average in her coursework. Among her classes are honors English and Biology, along with AP English and AP Human Geography.

Binagi also has been an active participant in school activities, including serving on the school’s student council, the “Hope Squad,” and as secretary and vice president of the school’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America.

Additionally, the release noted, Binagi was a manager for her school’s varsity basketball team and served in a peer mentoring program. As a member of the program, she offered her study hall time to help other students with their classwork.

Binagi, as a member of the Whitewater High School Players, served as a costume assistant.

Further, the honoree works at McDonalds.

Said Binagi, within the release: “I enjoy spreading positivity in stressful times.”

Within the release, describing Binagi, a teacher wrote: she “is a true asset and leader with a great work ethic.” The teacher added: “she goes out of her way to make human connections.”

About Murphy

According to the release, Murphy is the son of Traci and Stephen Murphy. The student was chosen for this year’s award because he serves as an exemplary student.

Among his achievements, Cooper holds academic honors earned throughout his high school career. Among them, he has earned varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball and wrestling.

Describing Murphy, within the release, one of his coaches was quoted as saying that he has a “tremendous work ethic, poise and a passion for working with people.”

Also within the release, a teacher wrote that Murphy “demonstrates a strong commitment to academic pursuits. He’s a role model for his fellow athletes motivating them to achieve their best.”

Murphy has been employed since 2022 at Wiedenfeld Dairy, where he works with animals.

As stated in the release, the honoree is proficient with hand-held and power tools, and heavy machinery.

Murphy also has been involved as a childcare provider within his school district, where he supervises and works with children.
