Jefferson County Sheriff Paul Milbrath Tuesday released information about a 911 call reporting gunshots fired.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 12:14 a.m. Tuesday after which deputies responded to “gunshots fired in a residence, in the town of Sumner,” according to information released by Milbrath.
According to the release, “Upon arriving on scene, responding deputies observed an individual walking away from the residence. This individual matched the description of the suspect and was taken into custody.”
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is actively working a death investigation scene, the release continued.
In an updated news release, Milbrath noted that the death investigation is “a result of foul play that occurred early this morning.”
He said the lone victim’s identification is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
“As stated in the earlier press release, the suspect is in custody and there is no threat to the public,” Milbrath stated
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Wisconsin State Patrol, the Edgerton Police Department and EMS, and the Jefferson County Medical Examiner.
There is no further information to provide at this time, the release concluded.
