High school kitchen staff and buildings and grounds staff will still report to work on Wednesday.

The high school career fair scheduled for Wednesday will be rescheduled for a later date.

Again, due to an unresolved heating issue, Fort Atkinson High School will be closed on Wednesday, January 26, all other students will report to school as regularly scheduled. Please know, our team is working hard to resolve the issue in a timely manner and will keep our FAHS staff, families, and students updated.

High school heating system

From the district: At approximately 6 p.m. we became aware of an issue with the heating system at Fort Atkinson High School. Our team immediately began to investigate the problem and called for professional support. After further diagnostic testing, we were notified that the heat in the building needed to be turned off and the entire system needed to be drained in order to fix the leak. We were informed this process would take about 6-8 hours to fully complete. Given the low temperatures expected for Wednesday, the School District of Fort Atkinson made a call to cancel school for Wednesday, January 26, 2022, for Fort Atkinson High School students and staff. The District notified families as soon as possible after the diagnostic information was gathered and the final decision was made.

Given that school districts to the north and to the west of Madison were canceling school Tuesday night given wind chill warnings in their areas, the decision was made to send the message to all SDFA families to avoid any confusion as to if 4K-8 students should/should not report to school on Wednesday, January 26th.

We are very aware that not all families have the flexibility to stay home with their children on snow/cold weather days. Many students rely on school as a safe space that provides them with food and other necessities. As such, we will only cancel school if it is absolutely necessary and communicate with families as soon as possible.
