Fort Community Credit Union (FCCU) is planning public shred events in several communities including Fort Atkinson, Whitewater, Jefferson and Watertown.
According to a recent news release, the first shred event will take place in Fort Atkinson at the credit union’s main branch, 800 Madison Ave., Saturday, April 9, between 9 a.m. and noon.
Shred events will be facilitated with help from Shred-it, a document destruction service, the company’s website states.
The events are offered free of charge to the public, the release stated.
FCCU representatives will be onsite to direct car traffic and assist with the transfer of documents to the shred truck, the release noted.
Community members are encouraged to bring their confidential documents to be safely destroyed onsite, the release continued.
“Fraudsters can do a surprising amount of harm to a person’s financial wellbeing with the smallest amount of information. Protecting our members’ and community members’ information remains our top priority. Hosting our shred event is a great way for us to encourage everyone to take preventative action to minimize the risk of identity theft,” Sue Johnson, president and CEO of FCCU, was quoted as saying in the release.
Upcoming community shred events, each of which will be held between 9 a.m. and noon, include:
• FCCU Jefferson branch, 100 N. Main St., Saturday, July 16.
• FCCU Watertown branch, 633 S. Church St., Saturday, Aug. 13.
• FCCU Whitewater branch, 203 E. Milwaukee St., Saturday, Oct. 8.
