Jefferson-based FOCUS Coworking and the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce have announced plans to jointly host a “Business Services Fair,” offering services to existing and future entrepreneurs.
According to a recent release, the fair will be held Thursday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m., at the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce offices, 230 S. Main St., Jefferson.
The Business Services Fair will feature a variety of companies that can help navigate the business side of entrepreneurship.
As noted in the release, access to such providers as EZ Promotion & Apparel, Canales Coaching LLC, State Farm Insurance, Eric Felth Agency, Small Business Development Center, Thrivent, Port Light Technology, FOCUS Coworking, SB Office Management, Fort Tax, Premier Bank, Opportunities Inc. Custom Design & Print Services, Kreative Solutions, Iron Video Production, goJefferson.com, Jefferson Main Street Association, and the Jefferson Chamber of Commerce, will be made available to fair-goers.
The release stated: “Jefferson has experienced a steady increase in small businesses opening in the community and anticipates that trend to continue.”
Fair organizers said they recognized the “opportunities and challenges that accompany starting a business.”
FOCUS Coworking owner, Damon Schopen, advanced the idea for the fair, the release noted, based on his “passion for entrepreneurship.”
“So many people helped me along the way, and I enjoy giving back by helping others start their businesses. By holding a business services fair, business owners and people thinking of starting a business can speak to various service providers under one roof in a relaxed, casual, ‘no pressure’ environment,” Schopen was quoted as saying in the release.
Along with Focus Coworking, Schopen owns Port Light Technology. He began the business 11 years ago.
“Like most people who launch their own business, I was good at providing my craft, web design and software development, to my clients. I wasn’t as good at all the other things it takes to run a successful business,” Schopen noted within the release.
He struggled with bookkeeping, so he hired a bookkeeper, which, he said in the release, “was the best decision” he ever made.
His bookkeeper completes the work in a fraction of the time it took him, and he knows it is done right, the release read.
“I can ask my bookkeeper questions and leverage their expertise so I can make the right decisions for my business. I have had a similar experience with my insurance agent, banker, business coach, and many other services,” Schopen said.
Fair attendees also will have the opportunity to speak with Schopen about the monthly mastermind group, FOCUS Mastermind, which the release noted, is “designed for anyone thinking of starting a business or has specific challenges they are facing in their business.”
“Ultimately, we want to build a culture of support, exploration, and connectedness for current and future entrepreneurs,” the release read.
