The Fort Atkinson Club has announced that it is the recipient of a new shed which was built with funds coming through a private donation.
According to a news release, the family of Annabelle and Charles Udey donated funds to the club in 2020. A kit to build a new shed was purchased with the funding in 2021.
COVID-19-related supply chain issues delayed shipment of the kit, the release noted.
With help from community volunteers and the club’s maintenance person, Len Faytus, upon the arrival of the kit, the shed was completed in August.
“We have very little storage in our building, and things like shovels, the lawn mower, yard games, etc., get stored in random, and not the safest places,” Jill Kessenich, director of the Fort Atkinson Club, was quoted as saying in the release.
Upon receiving the donation, the club’s Building and Grounds Committee chose a garden shed design that would compliment the architecture of the original 1913 building at 211 South Water St. E. The shed has a similar roof pitch, the release noted.
Additionally, the 10- by 12-foot garden shed has cedar lap and vertical siding, a solid wood door, and high quality windows. All the materials, aside from the concrete slab and roofing shingles, were included in the kit, the release stated.
The shed is complete with a bronze plaque in honor of Charles and Annabelle, the release concluded.
