The Fort Atkinson High School show choir and jazz band came together recently to perform a summer concert, showcasing work completed by students during summer school programming.
Held on July 30, performances given by the Summer School Jazz Ensemble were under the direction of Justin Steger and performances from the South High Street Singers and Lexington Singers were under the direction of Kiah Snow. A combo performance was directed by Justin Steger.
Pieces performed by the Summer School Jazz Ensemble included: “The Preacher,” by Horace Silver, arranged by John Edmonson, and featuring Jonas Boshart, soloist; “Summertime,” by George Gershwin, arranged by Dave Wolpe, and featuring Gabe Russell, soloist, and Cal Tamblyn; “Cotton Tail,” by Duke Ellington, arranged by Mark Taylor, and featuring Quinn Abbot, Anton Saucedo, Russell Frey and Gabe Russell, soloists, and “Second Line (Joe Avery Blues) a traditional piece arranged by Victor I. Goines.
Numbers performed by the South High Street Singers and Lexington Singers included: “People Like Us,” arranged by Alan Billingsley with choreography by Ben Schrank; “Out Here On My Own,” arranged by Mac Huff, featuring Abbey Hoffman, Logan Recob and Jackson Sitkiewitz, soloists; “Long Train Runnin’,” arranged by Kirby Shaw with choreography by Casey Strayer, and “I Can’t Go Back,” arranged by Mark Brymer, with choreography by Ben Schrank and featuring Sarah Holzli, soloist.
