Wayne Crook, the director of the Fort Atkinson Community Band, has announced that rehearsals for the summer band 2024 concert season will begin tonight at the Fort Atkinson Middle School, 310 S. Fourth St., E., Fort Atkinson, at 7:30 p.m.
Rehearsals will be held Monday evenings between 7:30 and 9 p.m. at the middle school location, in the school’s “band room,” Crook, within his release, noted.
The band will be rehearsing for this, the 64th, season of summer outdoor concerts performed in Fort Atkinson’s Barrie Park, 210 Roberts St., the release stated.
The band is composed of adult and student musicians from the surrounding area who enjoy performing in a concert band, according to the release.
“Players of all wind and percussion instruments are most welcome with no tryouts or fees required for participation. Limited instruments are available to borrow,” the release additionally stated.
The release noted that the main purposes of the band are to provide adults with an opportunity to continue playing their instruments, making music as a lifelong activity, while providing quality music to city and area residents.
Crook, within the release, assured band members that, through rehearsals, “we’ll get in playing shape together with a wide variety of concert band literature.”
He further noted that new members are needed in all sections of the band.
The activity is fun, he said.
As noted in the release, this year’s concert dates include: June 17, July 1, July 15, July 29, and Aug. 12.
Ice cream socials, offering event-goers an opportunity to purchase treats, will once again be sponsored by area groups.
Those interested in sponsoring an ice cream social are encouraged to contact the Fort Atkinson Parks and Recreation Department. Information is here: https://fortparksandrec.activityreg.com/ClientPage_t2.wcs.
