Fort Community Band season announced; ice cream social sponsors sought

As it enters its 63rd season, the Fort Atkinson Community Band hopes to bring back the ice cream socials held during its summer concerts, according to information released by the band.

No ice cream socials have been held the past three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the release stated.

Band director Wayne Crook said local organizations that would like to hold an ice cream social as a fundraiser should contact the Fort Atkinson Parks and Recreation Department, by phone: 920-397-9910, or email: bfriese@fortatkinsonwi.gov.

The department’s address is 30 N. Water St. West, Fort Atkinson.

Sign-up for available dates is on a first-come, first-served basis, the release continued.

The socials start about a half-hour before each concert and continue through and after the performance.

Meanwhile, in a second release, the Fort Atkinson Community Band has announced that it will be performing concerts on five Mondays: June 19, July 3, 17 and 31, and Aug. 14.

Performances are free, open to the public, and held at the bandshell in Fort Atkinson’s Barrie Park.

Band rehearsals begin on April 3 and continue every Monday from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Fort Atkinson Middle School band room.

Band membership is open to all area musicians of high-school age to senior citizens who are interested in making music with a community band. There are no fees or tryouts to participate.

Instruments are available to borrow from the band, the release stated.

For more information about the band or ice cream socials, contact Crook through the band’s website: fortatkinsoncommunityband.org.
