A light mist didn’t deter vendors and shoppers from visiting the Fort Atkinson Farmers Market on Saturday.
Marking the second week of the market season, it took place from 8 a.m. to noon.
A special event celebrated the late poet Lorine Niedecker’s 120th birthday. Among activities were opportunities for authors to sell their books, and event-goers were invited to receive poems written on demand.
The market is located in the public parking lot located across the street from the U.S. Postal Service, 24 East Milwaukee Ave.
The market’s full warm weather season runs between May and October, providing 26 daytime shopping opportunities.
This season will provide a variety of locally grown and sourced produce, flowers, meats, eggs, crafts and other items.
Clients using the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are be able to use electronic benefit transfers to pay for purchases made at the market of such items as produce, meats, eggs and most other food.
Several vendors also accept Farmers Market Nutrition Program (FNMP) checks for WIC recipients and seniors.
