Fort HealthCare seeks volunteers

Fort HealthCare has announced that it is looking for volunteers to join its Fort HealthCare Partners team.

According to information released by the health care provider, the Fort Atkinson Memorial Health Services Auxiliary, the Fort HealthCare volunteer program, was founded in 1951, and has since evolved and expanded over the decades. Fort HealthCare Partners now serve in a variety of roles, providing crucial support to the staff and patients’ experience at Fort Memorial Hospital.

A list of areas in which volunteer support is needed includes the CareLine Emergency Personal Response System, the release stated, noting that the program was begun in 1984 and then called “LifeLine.”

As stated in the release, the service provides subscribers with an emergency communicator directly connected to Fort HeathCare’s medical alert monitoring service, which alerts responders to the subscriber’s location so they can provide aid. The program is coordinated through the Volunteer Services Department, using Fort HealthCare Partners.

Other areas of service which need volunteer support include: ambulatory services; clerical support; cookie sales; laundry service; mail delivery; supply delivery; needlework, including sewing, crocheting and knitting; pet therapy, and wheelchair maintenance and cleaning.

The release noted that since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers have become greatly needed. Fort HealthCare encourages those who would like to make an impact on people’s lives to volunteer.

According to the release, a multitude of volunteer opportunities exist, included those that require differing levels of activity and levels of interactions with patients.

Positions that focus on patient interaction include staffing the hospitality cart, which offers healthy beverages and snacks, puzzle books, sleep aids and reading materials to patients at the hospital; managing the gift shop, which was started and is run by the partners team, and acting as patient escorts, who guide and help guests and patients find their way and move more easily around the hospital, the release stated.

“Our volunteers are vital to what we do here. Chances are if you’ve ever visited Fort Memorial Hospital, you’ve met a volunteer. Some partners have been with us for decades, and we always like to welcome new faces,” Kari Behling, volunteer services manager at Fort HealthCare, was quoted as saying in the release.

Volunteering with the partners team can provide a chance to learn new skills, meet new people, and make lifelong friendships, the release continued.
