Fort included in parks and rec program ‘Be Active Wisconsin’

Who will win the title of “Fittest Community?” Area Parks & Rec departments have joined the competition among over thirty communities throughout the state of Wisconsin to conquer the most active minutes of any activity during March 1-31. All ages are invited. At this time, the communities participating in Jefferson County are Fort Atkinson, Jefferson, Whitewater, and Watertown, according to a press release from the City of Fort Atkinson Parks and Recreation Department.

Residents of each community will participate as one team to win, although there is a recommendation for a personal goal of 200 minutes a week. Any physical activity will count towards the active minutes, such as biking, skiing, snowshoeing, dancing, swimming, etc. Participants are asked to submit weekly totals every Monday no later than 10AM as all community totals will be released Monday afternoons to see where the communities rank against each other. The submitted minutes are based on an honor system and will be entered through an online form weekly at http://bit.ly/BeActiveMinutes.

Sign up today with your respected or nearby community by visiting your Parks & Rec department’s website. Registration fee is $10 per person and the deadline to sign up is March 14, but it is encouraged to sign up before March 1 so all active minutes can count in March. All participants will receive a t-shirt and the most active community will win a trophy!
