The Fort Atkinson Lions Club noted recently that eight members of the organization attended the District 27-A1 Lions Club convention which was held earlier this month in Pewaukee.
According to information released by the club, the Fort Atkinson Club members stayed on Jan. 6 and 7 at the Ingleside Hotel and attended several presentation, including several covering such topics as “Wisconsin Lions Foundation,” “Leader Dog,” “ Kathy’s House,” “Restoring Hope Transplant House,” “Lions Eye Bank” and “Wisconsin Gaming Commission,” which focused on rules governing raffles and fundraising.
As part of the convention, a service project was performed, including the preparation of 100 gift bags which will be distributed to children undergoing cancer treatments at a nearby hospital. Contents included journals, markers, books, cards and other items to occupy a child’s attention as they deal with treatments, the release stated.
Among those helping with the project were Fort Atkinson Club members Nancy Onufer, Michelle Ebbert, and Betty Strese, who helped to pack the bags. Items in the bags were donated by local clubs.
During the convention, Fort Atkinson Lions Club member John Anderson spoke about the club’s desire to host a district golf outing. A vote was taken after which the Fort Atkinson Lion were named as the hosts for the 2024 District Golf Outing.
As stated in the release, members also contributed to other projects during the convention.
Onufer prepared a basket for a raffle fundraiser, and club member Donna Petersen headed up Fort Atkinson’s canned food donation for the event.
“Lion Patti Hurtgen served as the district convention photographer, capturing a weekend of activities,” the release noted.
In addition, during the convention, the Fort Atkinson Lions Club was one of five clubs to receive special recognition from the Wisconsin Lions Foundation for its annual contribution to the Lions Camp, according to the release.
