Several members of the Fort Atkinson Lions Club were recognized in April for “milestone years of membership and service,” according to information released recently by the club.
According to the release: At the club’s April 26 meeting, District Governor for Lions Club International District 27-A1 Don Drew presented chevrons (pins) to Lions with milestone years of membership and service.
“The number of Lions honored and their years of service is certainly impressive (with) over 320 years of service from just 10 individuals. Seven have served as the Fort Atkinson Lions Club President,” club member Patti Hurtgen said in the release.
Those recognized included: with 15 years of service, Jeff Woods and Wes Gordon; with 20 years of service, Mark Anderson; with 25 years of service, Kim Grunow and Gary Moen; with 45 years of service, Gordon “Chip” Day, Pete Newell and Rick James, and with 55 years of service, Lee Jahnke and Frank Barend.
Some club history
The Fort Atkinson Lions Club has been in existence since 1930. The club has a long history of involvement in the community including its annual Smelt Fry, Corn and Chicken Dinner, and its concession stand at Ralph Park softball games. The club supports local projects, as well as broader projects such as used eyeglasses recycling, cancer research, diabetes awareness, hearing aid recycling, environmental enhancements, and the Wisconsin Lions Camp, as well as other less publicized activities.
