Garman Nature Preserve interpretative trail signage unveiling and hike scheduled

The unveiling of interpretative and wayfinding trail signage is scheduled for Saturday, May 22, between 10 a.m. and noon, according to a press release from the Jefferson County Parks Department.

The event will be held at 701 Fox Lane, Waterloo.

According to the release: The Jefferson County Parks Department invites you to join us for a grand unveiling of the Garman Nature Preserve interpretative and wayfinding signage. The Parks Department has been working with local volunteers and the 106 Group to develop a series of interpretive signs that will guide visitors through the Nature Preserve and provide opportunities for education and interpretation of the preserve’s features including:

  • 22 conical Indian Mounds.
  • Glacial features.
  • Geology.
  • Common plants and animals found in the preserve.

In an effort to be historically accurate, and to honor the legacy of Dr. and Mrs. Garman, the project team consulted with the Ho-Chunk tribe on artwork and content.

The Parks Department and the volunteers are extremely proud to show off the project and the Preserve. Please consider taking the time to visit and hike the preserve with us on May 22,

The project was supported by an anonymous grant from a charitable fund within the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region based in Appleton. The hike to the conical mounds is up hill.  Please consider terrain challenges when planning your visit.

Please also note: Visitors are kindly asked to wear face masks and follow COVID safety protocols as outlined by the Health Department.
