Editor’s note: Fort Atkinson Online and WhitewaterWise, with help from a poem by Ron “RadioRon” Stelse, wish our readers a happy Father’s Day.
Fathers everywhere
My dad was special
just ask my mom
he lost his leg
fighting in ‘nam.
ever hear of
of being on time
that wasn’t your father
but it sure was mine.
If it wasn’t for mom
my dad would be lost
his only interest was
“how much does it cost”?
hug your father
and tell him he’s grand
hug him again
and strike up the band.
There’s a daughter’s father
we no longer see
and she said, “if love could have saved him
he’d still be with me.”
If your father is gone
may I lessen your gloom
by wishing that GOD
had a visitor’s room.

Celebrating Father’s Day with a poem that asserts they are worthless without mom? I get the humor but I know so many dads who deserve better. I hppe Ron is able to recover from that experience one day.
