High speed, single vehicle crash results in fatality in Watertown

A truck driver was pronounced dead after failing to negotiate a curve, according to information released by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the release, Friday, at 9:22 p.m., deputies responded to a scene of a single-vehicle crash on Beryl Drive in the town of Watertown.

The office reports that the vehicle was traveling westbound on Beryl Drive “at a high rate of speed” when the driver encountered a curve and the vehicle left the roadway. The vehicle next rolled several times and the driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Speed was a contributing factor in the crash, the release noted.

The driver of the vehicle, which was described as “a truck,” was pronounced dead at the scene, the release continued, adding that the driver was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Watertown Fire Department and the Jefferson County medical examiner.

The incident remains under investigation by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the release concluded.
