Walking tours led by members of the Hoard Historical Museum staff will be held this Saturday, according to a recent news release.
Tours of Fort Atkinson’s downtown area will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with each tour lasting roughly one hour, museum director Merrilee Lee, who will lead tours this Saturday, noted within the release.
A focus of the tours is the city’s commercial architecture, the release stated.
According to the release, the city’s downtown has been recognized by several historical registries for its “architecture and depth” of history on Main Street.
“This tour will focus on what makes our downtown unique,” Lee added within the release.
Those interested in taking the tour are encouraged to prepare for a walk that will include one mile of paved surfaces. Strollers, wheelchairs and leashed dogs are welcome to join the tour, according to the release.
Both tours will begin and end at the Saturday Farmer’s Market in Fort Atkinson on East Milwaukee Avenue, Fort Atkinson.
While this Saturday’s tour will be the final one offered during the 2024 season, the release read, the museum will be hosting a bike tour Saturday, Sept. 28, which will be the final public tour of Fort Atkinson hosted in 2024 by the museum.
Tours offered by the museum are free to attend and open to the public. The museum is always appreciative of any donations it receives, the release continued.
According to the release, the Hoard Historical Museum is able to provide programs and tours free to the public due to the ongoing support of the museum’s membership and business patrons, and the city of Fort Atkinson.
Additionally, the release read: the Fort Atkinson Farmers Market is held Saturdays, between 8 a.m. and noon, with its full summer season running between May and October. For more information, visit the market’s website: www.fortfarmersmarket.com.
