Hoard Museum walking tours scheduled

The Hoard Historical Museum will be hosting walking tours of downtown Fort Atkinson. The activity will be held Saturday, June 29.

According to information released by the museum, a tour, which will be held in conjunction with the Fort Farmers Market, will offer two opportunities for participation. The first will be offered at 8:30 a.m. and a second will begin at 10 a.m.

Each tour is one hour long, and will give tour-goers an opportunity to see examples of commercial and residential architecture, with buildings accompanied by “inspiring, heartwarming and occasionally tragic stories,” associated with the people who built and occupied them, the release stated.

“This walking tour will highlight the structures and people who helped build Fort Atkinson. Walking tours will explore the buildings and area around the downtown section of Fort Atkinson,” the release noted.

According to the release, tour participants are encouraged to prepare for a one-mile walk over paved surfaces.

Those using strollers and wheelchairs, and accompanied by leashed dogs are invited to participate.

Each tour will begin and end at the Fort Farmers Market, which is held in the central downtown parking lot adjacent to the Fort Atkinson Post Office, 24 Milwaukee Ave.

Participating in either tour is free, although donations are accepted, the release noted.

Additionally noted in the release, “the Hoard Historical Museum is able to provide these programs and tours at no cost to the public due to the ongoing support of the museum’s membership and business patrons, and the city of Fort Atkinson.
