The Irvin L. Young Memorial Library, 431 W. Center St., Whitewater, has announced that it will be hosting a presentation designed to help those interested in exploring the Ice Age National Scenic Trail.
According to information released by the library, the Ice Age National Scenic Trail is a 1,200-mile-long hiking trail found entirely within the state of Wisconsin.
The trail traces the terminal moraine of the glacier formed during the most recent Ice Age, which took place some 15,000 years ago.
Those interested in learning about the trail are invited to participate in an introductory presentation which will be given by Ice Age Trail Alliance member Gary Hitchcock.
The presentation, which will be held in the library’s Community Room, Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 5:30 p.m., will offer tips for day hiking and backpacking on the trail, and provide resources, including maps and other valuable information about the Ice Age Trail, the release stated.
Participants of all ages are invited to attend the free activity. Registration in not required.
In addition, the release talks about the “Mammoth Hike Challenge,” an activity planned for this fall. Those accepting the challenge will hike 42 miles and visit communities along the trail.
For more information about the presentation, challenge or other activities sponsored by the library, visit: www.whitewaterlibrary.org or call 262-473-0530.
