Jefferson’s ‘Goat Fest’ to be held Saturday

The Friends of Goat Island have announced that Goat Fest 2023, a celebration of music, entertainment, and the goats from Goat Island will be held Saturday.

The event will be held in Jefferson’s Rotary Park, 301 S. Gardner Ave., from noon until 10 p.m.

The event is free and open to the public.

According to information released by organizers, the event will showcase three bands, including the Van Eskes, Bree Morgan, and Pink Houses.

In addition, event-goers will have opportunity to meet and interact with the goats from Goat Island.

“These lovable creatures will be present at the event, providing a unique and interactive experience for festival-goers. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the goats, learn about their history on Goat Island, and enjoy their playful antics throughout the day,” the release stated.

According to the release, proceeds from the event are used to support the goats of Goat Island. The Friends of Goat Island is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the care and maintenance of the island and its residential ruminants.

Monies earned are used to care for the goats and preserve the island’s natural habitat, the release noted.

Festival participants also will find the Goat Fest Makers Market, featuring more than 25 vendors who will be displaying their unique crafts and products.

“We are thrilled to bring Goat Fest back to Jefferson. This event embodies the spirit of our community, celebrating not only the fantastic local music talent but also our cherished goats from Goat Island. Goat Fest will offer an entertaining and educational experience for all ages, and we can’t wait to see families, friends, and neighbors come together to celebrate in Rotary Park,” Melinda Perez, president of Friends of Goat Island organization was quoted as saying in the release.
