Joy of giving and receiving expressed during senior scholarship ceremony

The joy of both giving and receiving was on display Wednesday night as some 30 presenters of more than 80 scholarships invited 62 Fort Atkinson High School seniors to join them on the school’s auditorium stage to receive recognition and gifts. 

Attendance at the livestreamed Fort Atkinson High School Senior Scholarship Ceremony was limited to honored seniors, presenters and school officials to maintain COVID-19 safety. 

During the ceremony, Mike Hall, who will be retiring at the end of the school year, received recognition as the 2021 Teacher of the Year and Constance Kopetsky was named 2021 Support Staff of the Year.

Kylee Koebernick and Eden Portugal are recipients of the Fort Atkinson Vocational/Technical Scholarship. 

Fort Memorial Hospital Foundation Scholarship recipients are Makenna Croson and Noah Frame.

Fort Atkinson Community Foundation Executive Director Sue Hartwick takes a moment to congratulate “Make A Difference” scholarship recipient Gabrielle Morales. The scholarship is made possible by the Polk, Ott, McGlynn and Kudlata families. The Fort Atkinson Community Foundation this year awarded some $361,000 in scholarships. 

Flanked by students Logan Hamele and Olivia Granec, both recipients of the Walter and Louise Buell Merit Scholarship, Chairperson of the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation Board of Directors Michael Bender, speaking to reporter Chris Spangler as part of an earlier story, said: “The foundation’s remarkable scholarship program exists because of all the kind and generous donors who have opened scholarship funds with us over the years.”
