The L.D. Fargo Library, 120 E. Madison St., Lake Mills, has announced its upcoming slate of events.
According to information released by the library, the following events are free and open to the public.
Chess club
The chess club is open to participants of all ages and meets from 9 a.m. to noon on the first Saturday of each month. Preregistration is not necessary, the release stated.
‘Getting Started With a Plant Based Diet’
A program titled: “Getting Started With a Plant Based Diet” will be presented by certified holistic health coach Michelle Stamn, of Wellness Empowered. The program will be held Thursday, May 18, at 6 p.m. According to the release, Stamn has been a physical therapist for more than 30 years. “She aims to educate people about using the power of plants in one’s diet to maintain and improve health,” the release noted.
‘Tangled Yarns’
A needlework group, called: “Tangled Yarns,” will meet at the library every fourth Monday. The next meeting is Monday, May 24, at 6 p.m., the release stated, noting that the group follows a “drop in.” format. All are welcome; participants are encouraged to bring a stitching project. The group offers an opportunity to “chat and share ideas,” according to the release.
‘Read to the Dogs’
Held every third Saturday of each month, a program titled: “Read to the Dogs” is offered between 10 and 11 a.m. The program offers participants an opportunity to read to a trained therapy dog.
According to the release, “not all kids enjoy reading or feel comfortable doing it, especially (when) reading aloud. A calm and patient therapy dog is an ideal listener. Reading aloud to a therapy dog helps to build a lifelong love of reading, and builds important literacy skills in kids.”
Summer reading program
This year’s summer reading program will begin Monday, June 12, and run through Sunday, July 22. “All Together Now” is this year’s theme, according to the release. Programs are available for babies, kids, teens, and adults, the release stated, adding that participants can earn prizes, badges and buttons.
