March 15 deadline for Grants for Girls applications

The deadline is fast approaching to apply for Grants for Gals, a nontraditional scholarship to help local girls and women meet an educational, cultural, leadership or professional advancement need. 

The grant is offered by members of the Fort Atkinson Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and administered by the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation. 

Awards will fall between $100 and $700. They are not to be used for college credits or to supplement living expenses.

The current application process for this scholarship ends Monday, March 15, with recipients to be notified by May 10.

The next application period will be Aug.1-Sept. 15, with recipients to be notified by Nov. 10. 

Applicants must be girls 10 years of age or older or women who are pursuing a program or class that can be completed within one year. It should fall in one of these categories: educational, cultural, leadership and professional development.

Applicants must live, work or attend school in the School District of Fort Atkinson.

Selection will be based on the applicant’s essay, letter(s) of recommendation, quality of the project or goal, and financial need. Recommended selections must be approved by the Fort Atkinson Community Foundation Board of Directors.

Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the program, organization or institution, and not to the recipient directly.

All applications must include a completed online application available at https://grantsforgals.org/images/g2application.pdf. If preferred, applications can be printed and mailed to AAUW, Grants for Gals, P.O. Box 624, Fort Atkinson. WI, 53538.

Applications must include at least one letter of recommendation from a nonfamily member. It will be helpful if you provide the criteria for this grant to them.

One written or video essay by the applicant describing how the grant will be used, why it’s needed, and how it will impact the recipient and/or community.

Applications also may include a (CV) or resume. Financial need-based merits also may be considered.
