The first-ever “Nickel Night” fundraising event was held in August, proceeds from which were used to support two Johnson Creek charities: The Friends of the Johnson Creek Public Library and the Johnson Creek Historical Society. Each organization was presented Tuesday with a check for $3,304.61.
The event was organized by Lyle Wuestenberg, owner of J&L Tire in Johnson Creek, who presented the checks to the two organizations during a short ceremony held at the Johnson Creek Village Hall.
The fundraising event was held at the Johnson Creek Community Center, and was a collaboration between Wuestenburg and other local businesses, and the Village of Johnson Creek. It offered an opportunity to “celebrate community by offering food and games for a nickel, as well as running the bases at Fireman’s Field with ‘Bernie Brewer’ and the ‘Brewers Racing Sausages,'” according to information released by the event’s organizers.
Additionally, Johnson Creek Public Library’s top summer readers were celebrated with “surprise savings bonds,” the release stated.
Along with J&L Tire, some 19 businesses contributed to the event, including: Burt’s Tire, Breathe Salt & Sauna, Compeer Financial, Culver’s, Fiesta Garibaldi, Gallitz Grading, Hi-Way Harry’s, Hoof Health, Jammie Trapp Real Estate, JC Car/Truck Wash, JC Powder, JWR, Dan MaGee, Mastermold, MK Cellular, Pernat’s, Pine Cone Restaurant, Pioneer Roofing, Premier Bank, Rob’s Performance Motorsports, and Steve’s Car & Truck Service.
Village staff members also participated in making the event a success, the release stated, including those from the Johnson Creek Fire and EMS Department, and the Johnson Creek Police Department.
“Nickel Night represents the best of Johnson Creek,” Village Board President John L. Swisher said within the release. “We truly are a community that comes together to celebrate and support each other and I’m proud the Village was able to partner on such an impactful and worthwhile event that will benefit two of our strongest nonprofits,” he added.
