One dead, two injured in vehicle crash following pursuit by deputy

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has reported that a vehicle crash, resulting in the death of one occupant and serious injuries to two others, occurred near the town of Ixonia.  

According to information released by Jefferson County Sheriff Paul Milbrath, a deputy observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed Monday at 12:30 p.m. The vehicle was entering the city of Watertown. 

The release states: “The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle by activating their emergency lights and using an audio signal. The vehicle increased its speed and left the city of Watertown, traveling eastbound on State Highway 16 into the town of Ixonia.”  

The release noted: “The suspect vehicle lost control while trying to pass other motorists and left the roadway. There were three occupants in the suspect vehicle. Two of the occupants were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The third occupant was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.”

As stipulated by state statutes, the Wisconsin State Patrol is conducting an investigation into the crash because a deputy was involved in the pursuit, the release noted.
