Paul passed away at home June 20, 2022, after a long illness.
He was born, October 25, 1941, to Gordon and Sylvia Babcock. He grew up on the family farm in Montrose Township, Dane County, WI. Paul attended elementary school at Lyle School in a one-room country schoolhouse and graduated from Belleville High School. In 1959, he received an appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy. He completed his bachelor’s education at UW Platteville and earned an M.S. from UW Whitewater.
Paul taught English at Fort Atkinson High School for 35 years, where he was delighted to share Robert Burns with his students. He also served as a Jefferson County Commissioner for 16 years, championing the park system and land conservation. He was an avid gardener, birder, voracious reader, and puzzler.
Paul married the love of his life, Bonnie Jean Maurer, on June 21, 1964, and they spent the next 58 years creating a life together. Paul is survived by Bonnie and two daughters: Lisa Neuberger (Peter) of Appleton; and Amy Millette of Nashotah. Paul loved his five grandchildren: Joseph (Morgan), Emma, Brianna, Drew, and Isaac; and great-grandchildren Adelaide and Sophia. Paul is also survived by his two brothers, Jack (Laurel) and Dean (Janice).
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on June 24 at the First United Methodist Church, Fort Atkinson. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m.
Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
