Another year has passed and Fort Atkinson Online would like to thank our readers, advertisers and those who have made donations during our last two years — 2021 and 2022 — of publication.
As many of our supporters may know, we embrace the motto: All ships rise together.
In keeping with that motto, we have set modest rates for all of our advertising packages with the firm belief that by making barriers for inclusion low, we will attract more organizations to our growing pool of supporters, and, together, as we make our collective contributions and readership grows — our statistics show that we are attracting on average some 60,000 readers monthly, up from 35,000 this time last year — we can offer more value to our advertisers. As a matter of full disclosure, statistics do not count unique visits to the Fort Atkinson Online LLC news service site, so one reader is likely visiting the site more than once during each monthly period.
Fort Atkinson Online is a local news source which seeks to cover as its primary region the cities of Fort Atkinson — with residents residing in Jefferson County — and Whitewater — with residents residing in Walworth and Jefferson counties. We receive press released materials and look for stories of import and interest to our readers from the surrounding area and counties, as we broaden our scope, covering communities within Jefferson County, and news impacting residents emanating from Jefferson and Walworth counties, and various state agencies.
According to USAfacts.org, in 2010, Jefferson County had a population of 83,727. In 2021, the population is reported at 84,943, which indicates an increase of 1.5%. In Walworth County, in 2010, the population was reported at 102,195. In 2021, it rose by 4.5%, to 106,799.
In 2023, Fort Atkinson Online will work to continue to reach a percentage of these populations, with emphasis placed on Fort Atkinson, with a reported population in 2020 of 12,579, and Whitewater, with a reported population in 2020 of 14,889.

Inflation
In August, the U.S. Labor Department reported that the consumer price index (CPI) — the instrument used to measure the price consumers pay for goods and services, and to help the Bureau of Labor Statistics calculate inflation — rose 8.3%. Put another way, a consumer in August of 2022, could expect to pay 8.3% more for the same goods and services purchased in 2021.
A chart, shown above, produced by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, showing a 7.5% increase in CPI over a 12-month period between January 2021 and January 2022, assigns weights to the inflationary impacts on goods and services by category.
Our advertising packages
In 2023, Fort Atkinson Online LLC has opted to once again hold our advertising prices steady, offering our packages at the same rates offered since our inception in 2021.
Two of our advertising packages are sold by the quarter (First quarter, January through March; second quarter, April through June; third quarter, July through September, and fourth quarter, October through December). These advertising packages are not prorated.
A third package is sold on an “as-needed” basis and is prorated. The full cost is $50 per month.
All of our ads come with a “welcome to our advertiser” story that runs through our news and feature story blocks and is placed on our Facebook page. They also will reside on our business directory found on the business page of our site: https://fortatkinsononline.com/business-2/.
Following is a more detailed explanation of each package:
• Single block ad: A single block ad placed on the cover of our site and traveling with each story, comes at a cost of $30 per quarter. The ads can be purchased for a full year at a cost of $120. Ad blocks can be submitted by the advertiser or we can help you create an ad block at no additional cost. Blocks are 250 by 250 pixels. The package includes a traveling ad with each story we post. The block ad is click-through to your website or a social media page of your choosing. The package includes one URL. An example is below.

• Double wide block ad: As the name implies, these ads occupy twice the space of the single-block ad on the cover of our site. The size is 250 by 500 pixels. The package includes a traveling ad with each story we post. The traveling ad size remains 250 by 250 pixels, therefore, advertisers using this package should submit a block in both sizes. The ads are click-through, utilizing one URL of your choice. The cost is $60 per quarter or $240 for the year. An example is below.

• Prorated monthly block ad: The prorated block ad runs on the sidebar of the site’s cover and as a traveling ad. This ad is popular with those looking to advertise a single event. The ad is click-through, accommodating one URL of your choice. Cost are as follows: full month, $50; three weeks, $35; two weeks, $25, and one week, $15. An example is below.
