Richard ‘Dick’ Langer (1949-2024)

Dick Langer, 75, of Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin, left this earth on September 29, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Dick was born in Fort Atkinson, to Clarence and Nina (Becker) Langer, and raised on the family’s farm. He loved it so much he decided to stay forever, settling and raising his family on an acre of land on the back 40. Dick was educated at Lakeview Country School, a one room schoolhouse, and graduated from Fort Atkinson High School in 1967.

Dick’s legacy lives strongly in the work ethic that he instilled in his children – modelled through the numerous jobs he held throughout his life, including farming at an early age and working for the Jefferson County Highway Department for 30 years. He was also a school bus driver for Fort Bus Company for 8 years. Dick was always there for friends and family in need – never thinking twice about offering a helping hand.

Dick’s happiest moments were spent outdoors, hunting and fishing with his children, grandsons and nephews. He especially enjoyed the family’s yearly trip to the Chippewa Flowage.

Dick is survived by his wife Beth (Matzke), his children Jeanne (Jim) Schulenburg and Scott (Kara) Langer, grandsons Nick (Abby Bare) Schulenburg, Cameron and Lennox Langer, great-granddaughters Nora Schulenburg and Baby Girl Schulenburg (arriving in October), siblings Karen Langer, Sharon Keller, Ron (Lisa) Langer, Cindy (Steve) Harris, sister-in-law Jane Walmer, brothers-in-law Alan (Jane) Matzke and Jon (Bambi) Matzke and many special nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law Lori Langer, brother-in-law Richard Keller, and several treasured pets.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Friday, October 4, 2024, at St. John’s Community Church in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 3 at Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson from 4-6 PM and from 10 AM on Friday at the Church until the time of service. Burial will take place at Union Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at Koshkonong Mounds County Club following the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the HealthWell Foundation (https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/) and to St. John’s Community Church.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Johnson Creek Cancer Center and Fort Healthcare for their wonderful compassion and care.
