Robert (Bob) Krentz, 78, of Fort Atkinson, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at Alden Estates of Jefferson.
Robert H. Krentz was born on January 5, 1946 to Wilmer L. and Kathryn J. (Henry) Krentz in Fort Atkinson, WI.
Bob attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Grade School and graduated from Fort Atkinson High School setting the first award winning butterfly swimming record along with swimmer of the year.
After attending 1 year of college at Oshkosh, WI, Bob served in the Air Force honorably from 1965 to 1969. In 1971 he received a marketing / sales degree from MATC in Madison.
He married Shirley A. Drapes on July 17, 1971 at the Catholic Center in Madison, WI.
Bob owned and operated Krentz Auto Mart for 40+ years. He served on the Wisconsin’s Used Car Council for more than 20 years, and received the Wisconsin Used Car Dealer of the Year in 2001. Bob served on the committee that supported the “Title Brand” bill into law. In 1994 when the bill was signed by Gov. Tommy Thompson, Bob was at his side.
Bob was a member / supporter of the American Legion, VFW, Lions Club and St. Joseph’s Knights of Columbus. He was an avid downhill skier, golfer and cyclist and enjoyed the outdoors. Bob loved the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers, never missing their games.
Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley; children, Dustin Krentz and Megan Krentz; grandchildren, Madison Skye and Noah Robert and sister, Karen (Richard) Miles. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilmer and mother, Kay.
In spite of Bob’s Parkinson’s struggles, he never lost the great sense of humor he had which will be missed by many.
A Mass will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. at the church until the time of the service.
All donations will be forwarded to a Fort Atkinson High School Marketing Scholarship.
