Update: Ron Johnson has been declared the winner in the race for his U.S. Senate seat, according to ballotpedia.org.
In a race, as of Wednesday afternoon, described by several election sites as “too close to call” or with a winner declared “projected” by state and national news sites, incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson seems the likely winner.
The nonprofit election website ballotpedia.org, as of Wednesday afternoon, continues to report: “the outcome of this election has not been called yet.”
Additionally, the site notes that Johnson, statewide, has received 51.1% of the vote while his opponent, Democratic challenger Mandela Barnes has received 48.9%. In ballots cast, the two are separated by 43,610 votes. The ballotpedia.org page is here: https://ballotpedia.org/Ron_Johnson_(Wisconsin).
In Jefferson, Johnson won the county with 22,400 or 57.52% of the vote. Barnes earned 16,137 or 41.44% of the vote. There were 33 precincts reporting.
In Walworth, with a the race’s full slate of 37 precincts reporting, Johnson won the county by a large margin, earning 27,990 votes against Barnes’ 17,820 votes.
