Following yesterday’s deadline for candidates’ names to be placed on the upcoming spring general election ballot, Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and School Board Lisa Haas noted by email that School District of Fort Atkinson Board of Education member Rhona Buchta, who holds the single seat due for reelection this cycle, has opted against running for reelection.
The candidate filed a Notification of Non-candidacy on Dec. 21, Haas wrote.
Additionally, Haas noted that Matt Loup has come forward as a candidate to run for the open seat.
Loup is the only challenger to come forward to make a run for the seat.
Loup was among three candidates running for one of two board seats last year, losing his bid against two incumbents: Kory Knickrehm and Amy Reynolds.
He was among four candidates running for two school board seats in 2022, having won placement on the general election ballot after successfully campaigning as one of six candidates in a spring primary.
During the 2022 general spring election, he ran against three opponents: Sam LaMuro, Christopher Rogers and Robynn Selle. Loup and LaMuro were unsuccessful in their bids to win seats.
Rogers and Selle were installed as members of the district’s board of education following the spring general election in 2022.
School board members serve at-large and for three-year terms.
