School District of Fort Atkinson to begin construction projects during spring break

School District of Fort Atkinson officials have announced that preparations are underway to begin construction projects this summer.

Storage containers have been delivered to several elementary buildings which will be used to store furniture and classroom contents, the release stated.

Projects, including asbestos abatement, ceiling removal, and construction work are scheduled to commence during the upcoming spring break, scheduled for March 25 through 29, according to the district’s 2023-24 school year calendar.

Additionally, the release noted, this summer, the district will undertake “key projects,” which will enhance safety measures including constructing secure entrances at the four elementary buildings.

Summer projects include addressing the district’s “immediate maintenance and upkeep needs,” which further include repairs to the middle school and high school roofs, ADA compliance projects, and HVAC, plumbing, flooring and lighting upgrades, according to the release.

“These upcoming projects will improve accessibility, functionality, and the overall quality of the district’s infrastructure and reflect our community’s commitment to providing safe and inclusive learning environments for students. We aim to minimize any disruptions to our normal operations, and we appreciate the understanding, cooperation, and support of our community as we move ahead,” Rob Abbott, superintendent, was quoted as saying in the release.

Capital improvements completed last summer and those soon to commence are funded though the districts capital referendum approved by the voters in November, 2022, the release stated.

Last summer, crews completed secure entrances at the high school, middle school, and administrative office, along with the replacement of the roofs at Barrie and Rockwell Elementary schools, the release noted.
