School district releases statement noting 4% salary increase

Editor’s note: The following statement has been released for publication by the School District of Fort Atkinson.

The School District of Fort Atkinson held a special board meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 1, to act on the 2023-24 compensation plans for staff members in the district.

The district met with the Fort Atkinson Education Association (FEA) for collective bargaining discussions. Ultimately, the district and the Fort Atkinson Education Association (FEA) did not come to an agreement, therefore, board action was required in order to impose the Board’s proposal for a 4% salary increase.

In addition to the imposition of the adjustments for represented staff, a 4% increase was also awarded to non-represented staff.

Board President Kory Knickrehm stated: “It is unfortunate that the board was not able to come to a mutually agreeable negotiated salary increase with FEA. Ultimately FEA’s larger salary increase demands were not something we could support. While we would like nothing more than to provide a larger salary increase to our employees, it is crucial that the board continue to demonstrate careful fiscal planning given the longterm financial needs of the district. We believe this salary increase accomplishes both the need for fiscal prudence and supports our retention and recruitment efforts through alignment with other salary adjustments in the region.”

The School District of Fort Atkinson Board of Education remains grateful for the hard work and dedication of our educators and staff.
